Pentecost Baptist Church will have their annual Health and Wellness Fair on February 25 from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Various screenings will be done at no cost by vendors from Ochsner, Elmwood Fitness, Walgreens, Nutrition Check and more. Come out and enjoy the fun participating in Zumba classes or tasting some delicious nutrition drinks. The Pentecost Education Committee invites the community to come out, exercise, and learn more about healthy eating. The church is located at 36138 Shady Lane off Highway 190 West. Start the new year off learning how to relax and be more in touch with your mind. Alice Landry and Janine Mejia will lead a 6-week class consisting of Hatha yoga and guided meditation on Mondays, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Causeway Library in Mandeville. Participants will need to bring their own mats or towels and should wear comfortable clothes. The class is designed to provide a peaceful space and time for relaxation, centering, and holistic self-care. Classes will be on the following Mondays: February 6th, February 13th, March 6th, March 13th, & March 20th. The event is free and open to the public, and registration is recommended. The Mardi Gras Madness 5K, hosted by Lake Area Runners, will be held on February 26 in Lake Charles.  The race start time will be approximately 2:30 pm.  The race will start at the Police Jury Parking Lot.  It is a point to point race that coincides with the Mardi Gras Children’s parade route. The course runs down the Mardi Gras Parade route just an hour before The Children's Parade. Can't beat the crowd support on this one!!!!

The "Loop the Lake" event is hosted by Alpha Epilson Delta, a pre-professional health honors society dedicated to pre-medical students.  The event will take participant on a 3 mile fun run around the LSU lakes. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is the world's largest, most successful fundraising and education event for breast cancer.  The funds raised by participants help the Susan G. Komen Foundation to work to their goal to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the United States!  The race includes a 1-Mile Fun Run, 5K Run/Walk and live music afterwards.  The race will kick off from the LSU Old Front Nine at the Nicholson Extension.

The Louisiana Green Schools Youth Summit is the first event in Louisiana that gives students in grades 5-12 that are interested in creating more environmentally sustainable schools a venue to share their ideas and experiences while learning from other like-minded students from across the state. This event is free for students to attend - but space is limited!  Attendee Registration Deadline - March 10, 2017

The summit will give you an opportunity to present you and your schools projects that have helped increase environmental sustainability. Don’t have any green initiatives currently at your school? Come and learn from other student leaders across the state about what works!  Visit with private industry, non-profit, and gov-ernment organizations about green career op-tions and resources available for your school.
