Smoke-Free Site

A smoke-free policy bans smoking of any kind on the property, including but not limited to: cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and electronic cigarettes. The policy should cover the entire property.  A smoke-free policy is a great first step toward gradually shifting to a tobacco-free environment.

This WellSpot has implemented a smoke-free policy.

Tobacco-Free Site

The foundation for WellSpot designation is centered on tobacco-free environments.  A tobacco-free policy prohibits use of all tobacco products on an organization’s property.  This includes tobacco in all forms, as well as any type of smoking device.

This WellSpot has implemented a tobacco-free policy.

Tobacco Cessation Coverage

To meet this benchmark for WellSpot recognition, an organization’s employee health plan must cover tobacco cessation counseling and/or medications, including nicotine replacement therapies.

This WellSpot offers tobacco cessation coverage as part of its health plan.

Promotion of LA Tobacco Quitline

Promotion of cessation services available in the state is key to assisting individuals in their attempt to quit.  It is important to make these services known so tobacco users know where to go to get help in their quit attempts.

This WellSpot has met all the requirements regarding promotion of the LA Tobacco Quitline.

5-2-1-0 Partner

The 5-2-1-0 program is adapted from the evidence-based 5-2-1-0 program developed by the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

     5-2-1-0 stands for:
5 or more fruits and vegetables per day
2 or less hours of recreational screen time per day
1 or more hour of physical activity per day
0 sodas or sweetened beverages per day

This WellSpot promotes the 5-2-1-0 program in at least two ways in its facility.

Smart Snacks

School WellSpots should follow USDA’s Smart Snacks policy that requires all foods sold during the school day to meet nutrition standards.  This includes fundraisers, school parties and any other foods consumed during school hours.

This WellSpot follows USDA’s Smart Snack guidelines to ensure healthy snacks for its students.

School Health Advisory Council

School WellSpots are asked to implement an active School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) that meets regularly to ensure implementation of its district wellness policy and make recommendations for improvements as appropriate.

This school has established an active School Health Advisory Council.

In School Promotion of Healthy Foods & Beverages

School WellSpots should promote healthy food and beverages through in-school marketing.  This promotion encourages students to choose items such as water, milk, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

This school WellSpot promotes healthy food and beverages to its students.

20 Minutes of Physical Activity

School WellSpots must enable students in K-8 grades to participate in at least 20 minutes of physical activity per day, including daily recess.

This WellSpot meets the physical activity requirement for this benchmark.

 No PE or Recess Restriction

Physical education and recess are beneficial to students and teachers for a number of reasons.  Physical education teaches students how to live healthier lives, as well as provide time for physical activity.  Physical activity breaks are a healthy way for students and teachers to release tension.  Physical activity also results in students returning to the classroom more focused on their school work.

This WellSpot does not allow missing PE or recess to be used as a punishment for students.
