The WISEWOMAN (Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for WOMen Across the Nation) program helps women understand and reduce their risk for heart disease and stroke and provides services to help promote lasting heart-healthy lifestyles. WISEWOMAN offers expanded screening services to the Women enrolled in the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program. Specifically those within the age range of 40-64 and who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks consist of one of the following:
- High Blood Pressure (Systolic >120mmHg or Diastolic >80mmHG)
- Overweight (BMI >25)
- Uses tobacco products
- Family History of CVD
The women participating in WISEWOMAN will be provided heart disease and stroke risk factor screenings, which includes blood pressure, blood cholesterol and glucose, risk reduction counseling and referrals to programs that promote healthy behaviors to reduce the risk for heart disease and stroke.
