According to the American Heart Association, nearly half of all the adults in the United States have high blood pressure, and many don’t even know they have it. Known as the “silent killer,” high blood pressure often comes without symptoms and can be a significant factor to heart attack, stroke or other health threats.

Well-Ahead Louisiana provides technical assistance to community-based organizations interested in launching a blood pressure monitoring program, where community members have their blood pressure taken outside of a healthcare facility, such as at a barbershop, church or nail salon. Those residents who are found to have high blood pressure are referred to a local health center for treatment.

Well-Ahead helps find and establish partnerships with health centers to ensure the residents who learn they have high blood pressure receive follow-up care. We also train the community organizations and clinical teams on how to effectively run the program. Community partners receive educational and promotional materials, a template for electronic data collection and other assistance as needed.

Join Well-Ahead in ending the silent killer by participating in a blood pressure monitoring program!
