Cameron Parish Health Unit offers breastfeeding support for WIC mothers choosing to breastfeed. Participants are provided information through counseling and educational materials. Breastfeeding mothers also receive follow-up support through peer counselors. In addition, breastfeeding mothers can receive breast pumps, breast shells or nursing supplements to help support the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding mothers are eligible to participate in WIC longer than non-breastfeeding mothers, and mothers who exclusively breastfeed receive an enhanced food package.
Operating hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
