Choices is a national non-profit organization committed to supporting youth with significant behavioral and emotional challenges in community settings by using evidence-informed methods that build on the strengths of everyone involved.

We partner with families, schools, providers, government agencies, health insurers, and managed-care organizations to build a customized plan of care for a youth and their family.  At Choices, we believe that youth and families should receive support to keep children out of inpatient facilities, foster care, residential facilities, and juvenile detention.  Strong families are the key to supporting children with significant behavioral health challenges.

Louisiana Choices services youth who are at risk of or living in out-of-home care and are enrolled in the Louisiana Coordinated System of Care (CSoC).  CSoC was launched in 2012 following the efforts of school systems, children- and you-services boards, juvenile courts, local and state agencies, churches, and other child and family groups.  Louisiana Choices serves youth and families in CSoC within their homes and communities, reducing the need for more invasive institutional care. 

Referrals to Louisiana Choices are made by families, schools, and justice and social service agencies.  These referrals are considered by the five Medicaid managed care plans, called the Bayou Health plans, and Magellan Health Services.  Together, they determine the eligibility of a referred youth for wraparound.  Choices serves youth in CSoC Regions 3, 6, and 8.
