A milk depot is an amazing resource that allows nursing mothers to donate their breast milk to infants in need. The Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) is the first milk bank depot in Southwest Louisiana and the third breast milk donation depot in the state. All donated frozen breast milk will be sent to Mother’s Milk Bank at Austin, where it is processed and pasteurized. The breast milk will then be sent to hospitals across the country, who need milk for their fragile babies.

If you are not a registered donor and are a mother nursing an infant under 12 months old you are eligible to be screened at no charge to become an approved breast milk donor. Once screening is complete, donors will be able to begin making their donations upon receipt of their ID number. If you are already a registered breast milk donor, LGMC provides a drive through drop off option for your convenience.
