Space is limited.

Breastfeeding not only provides your baby with important vitamins and nutrients, but it also serves as a wonderful opportunity for you to bond with your baby. Opelousas General encourages a “Golden Hour” initiative, which emphasizes skin-to-skin contact with both mom and dad in the hour immediately following delivery. At Opelousas General, we’re strong believers in breastfeeding. That’s why we were chosen as one of four hospitals in the state of Louisiana and 90 nationwide to participate in a national initiative to promote breastfeeding, the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality’s (NICHQ) Best Fed Beginnings Collaborative.

Our Lactation Consultant provides both prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding education, support and assistance. We also offer a breastfeeding warm line phone resource for answering questions once you’ve left the hospital. The warm line is available to ALL patients both prenatal and postpartum.
