The Parents as Teachers (PAT) program is a home visiting program for pregnant or parenting families with children 36 months or younger in the Shreveport area.  Parent Educators provide personal visits in the home and offer health and developmental screenings for children, as well as resources for families to support them in reaching their goals and addressing their needs.  The PAT curriculum focuses on parent-child interaction, developmental centered parenting and family well-being, building on families’ strengths and capabilities. PAT increases parent knowledge of early childhood development, positive parenting practices, Topics covered in the program include a variety of birth and breastfeeding related subjects, and more. Enrolled families are supported from pregnancy until the child’s entry in kindergarten.

Eligibility requirements include the following:

  • A Medicaid-eligible pregnant woman OR
  • Have a Medicaid-eligible child 12 months or younger OR
  • A Nurse-Family Partnership graduate family

All participants must live in Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Bienville, Claiborne, Red River or Natchitoches Parish.
All participants must meet income requirements (eligible for Medicaid, WIC, SNAP, TANF or SSI).
