The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and Well-Ahead Louisiana’s WellSpot Designation (WSD) program recognizes Ochsner Health for implementing policy, systems, and environmental changes within its facilities to encourage and foster spaces where individuals can thrive.

Ochsner joins over 2,000 worksite, healthcare facility, and hospital WellSpots in its venture to make Louisiana healthier. WSD changes the health environment where Louisianans live, work, learn, play, and pray.

WSD has a set of evidence-based initiatives for eight organization types designated as a Level 1, 2, or 3 WellSpot based on the number of benchmarks it implements. Considered the highest, Level 1 recognizes WellSpots that have implemented all initiatives. WSD has more than 3,500 WellSpots statewide, over 500 of which are Level 1.

Ochsner’s designation includes more than 175 worksites, healthcare facilities, and hospitals statewide, representing all 9 LDH Regions.

“We find that many people want to make healthy choices, but they don’t always have those options in places like work or school. WellSpot is crucial because it encourages organizations to provide healthier choices. Even small changes in a community can add up quickly,” says Dr. Yvens Laborde, MD, Ochsner’s Chief Community Medical Officer.
