Tax-Free Loan Repayment Assistance For Healthcare Professionals
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) offers tax-free loan repayment assistance to support qualified clinicians who work at an NHSC-approved site in a designated Health Professional Shortage Area. Well-Ahead provides technical assistance to facilities and healthcare students and professionals when applying for NHSC scholarship and repayment programs.
It is important for all our residents to have access to high quality healthcare, and the programs provided by the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) help facilities recognize the value qualified clinicians bring to our communities. As an NHSC-site, hospitals and clinics can incentivize eligible healthcare professionals and providers through the NHSC loan repayment and scholarship programs. These programs can be key in recruiting and retaining staff in rural and underserved areas.
Facilities must become an NHSC-approved site to be eligible to offer NHSC programs to their workforce. The application cycle happens annually and is typically open six to eight weeks. Applications are closed for 2023.
NHSC New Site Application
Become a NHSC site! Eligible healthcare facilities can apply to become National Health Service Corps (NHSC)-approved sites. NHSC-approved sites provide outpatient, primary health care services to people in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). Applications are closed for 2024. Check back for 2025 application deadlines.
NHSC Site Recertification
NHSC-approved sites, with the exception of auto-approved NHSC sites, must submit a Site Recertification Application every three years. The same application process is used for both new and recertifying sites. The application window for the 2024 Site Recertification is open through September 30, 2024.
NHSC Scholarship Program
The NHSC Scholarship Program awards scholarships to students pursuing eligible primary care health professions training. In return, scholars commit to providing primary care health services in HPSAs. This scholarship is offered for one year of service with a two-year minimum/four-year maximum. Applications are closed for 2024. Check back for 2025 application deadlines.
NHSC Loan Repayment Program
The NHSC Loan Repayment Program offers tax-free loan repayment assistance to support qualified clinicians who work at an NHSC-approved site in a designated HPSA. Applications are closed for 2024. Check back for 2025 application deadlines.
NHSC Student-to-Service Loan Repayment Program
Students in their last year of medical or dental school receive loan repayment assistance in return for at least three years of service at an NHSC-approved site in a designated HPSA. The application window for the 2025 Students to Service Loan Repayment Program is open through November 7, 2024.
NHSC Corps Loan Repayment Program
Nurses who meet the NCLRP requirements and work in an eligible Critical Shortage Facilities or serves as nurse faculty in an eligible school may apply for the loan repayment program. Applications are closed for 2024. Check back for 2025 application deadlines.
