Quit With Us, Louisiana is committed to helping Louisiana residents live life tobacco-free by connecting them to the Louisiana Tobacco Quitline and providing community resources that help them quit. Quit With Us, Louisiana has many online resources for those ready to quit tobacco and educational materials to learn more about how tobacco effects our residents. You can also access cessation-related resources such as Quitline promotional materials, educational brochures and handouts, and downloadable fact sheets.

The Louisiana Tobacco Quitline (1-800-QUIT-NOW) is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via telephone, web and text. You can talk with a trained Quit Coach, get a customized Quit Plan and receive personal coaching sessions. The Quitline incorporates evidence-based strategies for tobacco cessation for all Louisiana residents ages 13 and over.

Quitting tobacco is hard for everyone, but teens can face unique challenges when trying to quit. Parents, teachers and schools can help connect teens to cessation resources and support that is tailored to their needs.

The Louisiana Tobacco Quitline Youth Support Program

The Louisiana Tobacco Quitline offers a youth support program for tobacco users ages 13 to 17. The program includes behavioral support through telephone and web-based cessation coaching that’s tailored to the unique challenges faced by youth. The Louisiana Tobacco Quitline also connects youth callers to national and community based cessation resources. Teens can call 1-800-QUIT-NOW to get started!

Smokefree Teen

The National Cancer Institute’s Smokefree Teen is a mobile-based tobacco intervention for 13 to 17-year-old tobacco users interested in or actively trying to quit tobacco. Smokefree Teen addresses key barriers and motivators for youth to quit tobacco use of all types and provides evidence-based cessation resources and interventions to help youth initiate and sustain a quit attempt.

Quit Vaping Resources

Quitting vaping is tough for teens. Nicotine is in most vapes and is highly addictive. Parents, teachers and school staff can be key in preventing teens from vaping and helping them quit. Learn more.

Live Vape Free

The Quitline’s Live Vape Free youth texting program is a free learning experience for teens ages 13 to 17 that’s fun, easy-to-navigate and teaches skills to quit vaping. The support is text message based through an automated texting program and offers interactive coaching to drive youth behavior change.

For more personalized support, youth will also have access to a Quit Coach at any time. The quit coaches will provide additional education, tools and guidance to help youth initiate and sustain a quit attempt.

Youth can enroll into the Live Vape Free program by texting ”VAPEFREE” to 873373 to get started. They can also visit quitwithusla.org to learn more about cessation resources available to them.

Program Features:
  • Unlimited access to a quit coach:
    • Quit coaches are trained to meet the specific needs of youth.
    • Youth will access the coaches by simply texting the word “Coach.”
  • Automated texting program with an authentic voice:
    • “Cadence” interactive automated texting program that adapts to teen’s engagements by using emoji’s, trending language, etc.
  • Multimedia activities:
    • Videos, quizzes, self-assessments, flip cards, audio and podcasts.
  • Personalized youth quit support:
    • Educates on keys to quitting
    • Motivates, inspires, enlightens
    • Helps teens find their “why”
    • Boosts confidence
Getting Started:
  • Teen texts ”VAPEFREE” to 873373 and immediately receives a few brief questions for enrollment.
  • Upon enrollment, the texting experience kicks off with the first introductory lesson to assess.
  • Teen sets a quit date.
Staying Engaged:
  • Teen has questions and texts “COACH” in response to a lesson.
  • Responding to the incoming text from a teen, a coach replies to see how they are doing.
  • Teen continues to receive texts with relevant content, such as videos, quizzes and podcasts, to help move along quit support.
Accessing Multimedia Program Activities:
  • User receives a text message from their coach with a link to online content.
  • User clicks the link and views the content.
  • User is then encouraged to explore additional videos, podcasts and activities throughout their quit attempt.
